On The Edge Of Summer
The Jimmy Carter Entertainment Report
Have you seen anyone mention that the ACMs were the lowest-rated in 17 years?

Music Row is so afraid of telling the truth. Didn't someone say the truth shall set you free?

The show was GOOD. The scheduling was BAD. The audience skewed 50-plus and was small by network TV standards.

The ACM claims to have no control over the show's scheduling. So, ACM board, don't sign a contract that gives up that kind of control! Unfortunately, country music doesn't have that kind of clout, so we go hat in hand to the great TV gods in New York and they throw us under the bus. We are addicted to their money. The ACMs were a steady three-hour show with some nice moments. (Taylor Swift and Tim McGraw, to name two.)

Many more than two nice moments: Vince playing that guitar was STRONG; Toby and the badonkadonk girls in construction habits might have not been a high point.

Rodney Atkins, please throw away the ball cap. You will thank me later in your career. You don't want to be in that cap for the rest of your career.

You just get tired of seeing a an ambitious show like that screwed by CBS not wanting to use any of its CSI franchise as cannon fodder for Idol and Dancing with the Stars.

The ACM does a good show every year. The stars seem to enjoy going to Vegas and make the most of their time there. The CMAs are stiff and uptight. So badly need Vince Gill back at the host helm. We shall see how they fare again on ABC this fall.

GAC is reairing the ACMs June 6 and 7. It is worth seeing if you missed it.

The Tim Song for the Fallen Heroes was THE moment of the ACMs, and the music biz folks are still coming up with a plan as of press time to figure out what to do. The song is called "If You're Reading This." It had NOT even been recorded. Stations are playing it off YouTube and off air.

Rascal Flatts sounded great on Good Morning America today. Someone take notes. How did they do that? Some of these Nashville award shows should get the same sound people.

Idol finals and the blowing up of Ms. Doolittle. Next surprise would be Blake winning. This is NOT impossible. The Net fever is building. Little girls vote for little boys, if my birds and bees lessons still apply.

No word on any of this season's folks going the country route.

Another ACM thought: Great for Brad to win Male vocalist and George Strait getting honored. He was classy. Brad is going for Entertainer of the Year very soon! His live shows are great!

Getting good word about Gretchen Wilson from folks out of the road.. From radio to stage crews. She is going to be around for a long time.

Summer and Memorial Day are almost here. When did the first half of the year go? We all need to take some time off this summer, whether we can afford to or not! No one will ever remember what the work was; it's the play that lasts for a lifetime.
